Initial Ideas:
Rare/ collectors item: This is an idea we want to run through our final theme, whatever that may be. We don't want our magazine to be printed monthly but to be printed only once or twice a year. This means that the magazine must be of good quality and well made. The packaging and presentation is also important to make the magazine a desirable object. Another idea is also to make this a 'unique' or 'one off' product to become more of a collectors item.
Thinking Fast: This idea would be a magazine that would revolve around the idea of thinking fast. To achieve this we would all be set a one day brief on the same subject to see what we can achieve in a very short amount of time. The magazine would then become a collection of these one day briefs. We would do this for a number of days and then reflect on our experience and the success or failure of the individual tasks. This idea would highlight the different style and ways of working for each member of our team.
To make this idea fun we thought of using the word brief as a pair of underpants. (briefs: close-fitting, legless underpants with an elastic waistband)
1950's: Using 1950's imagery and iconography create a design magazine looking at the 1950's public service announcements and general information and compare them to the way we live today. Would include alot of tongue in cheek humour and possible the history of 'Add One Egg'.
Opposites: Opposites is a very broad subject and can be related to nearly anything but in this case it would concern the opposites within design. This magazine could include arguments and debates, points of view and conflicting opinions and highlight the opposite areas of design.
Catalyst: 'Bringing together separate parts and making something new from it'. This magazine is the very definition of a catalyst... it is bring together designers from different disciplines (be it illustration, motion or photography) to create something new and unique. This magazine could highlight different subjects and the points of view from each of these areas of design.
Tomorrow: Forward thinking. Positive approach. New design trends. New products and technology. New designers (students) This would work better as a monthly magazine instead of only being printed once or twice a year.
Retelling stories:
Nursery Rhymes:
This would be called 'Nursery Grimes/ Nursery Crimes'
Re-inventing nursery rhymes in a modern and possibly dark way. It could also highlight modern issues.
Could include:
Mug shots of characters.
Evidence packs/ folders of characters. White gloves.
Interviews/ interogation of characters.
Posters (most wanted)
Concealed identity (pixalated images)
Ransom notes.
CCTV footage.
